Dulwich Village garden 2

The brief

These food lovers and their young family are big entertainers and wanted a large lawn for the children to play and allowing marquees to be erected from time to time as well as many other features including a large recreational lawn, a garden studio, a water feature, a small veg garden, a sunlounging deck, an evening lounge and a state of the art outdoor kitchen.

What I did

I followed the lines and scale of the proposed extension design by AR’CHIC to create the main patio nearer the house. An ornamental pond and fountain was designed to create interest in the shady part of the garden as well as reflect the sky, and reference to the site high water table and presence of an underground river nearby. As per all our projects the design is site driven as well as meeting the clients very detailed brief. Views are kept open onto green surroundings and screened where privacy needs to be preserved. Despite the need for an "as large as possible lawn", I was able to create pockets and zones for different uses throughout the day, working closely with the aspect of the garden. I also created vistas and intrigue, depth and focal points to create interest within the garden and draw the whole family and their friends outside to explore and wander.
